Antique Victorian, German color Paper Lace Embossed Die Cut Friendship CardAntique Victorian, German color Paper Lace Embossed Die Cut Friendship Card
We offer for your consideration, an Antique Victorian Paper Lace Embossed Die Cut Friendship or Valentine Card.
Our best guess for the time when it was made is most likely somewhere between 1850 to 1880.
There is no maker's name on the card.
You can clearly see the German inscription: "Die besten Gluckwunsche", which translates to "Best Wishes".
This sheet measures approximately 3 7/8 by 2 5/8 inches.
In the photos provided, you can see the lace and die cuts.
Also, you can see the lovely color picture in the center. You can view the girls hand reaching to the boy's face. In the foreground is a white swan. There are flower bearing bushes and trees. In the background is a castle with its towers. The girl is holding aa flower wreath in her right hand.
As for the condition of this fragile card, you can clearly see that the white (possibly silver) areas around the color picture are darkened. Cleaning such a delicate item is beyond my skill level. I leave that to someone more talented than I am.
I have provided some closeup photos which show two small holes at the top center. There may be a couple of other very tiny holes. The back side is also shown in a photo.
This card is presently laid on a white heavy card with clear plastic wrap laid over it. The card cannot shift or bend. It will be securely protected for shipping by First Class.
