    Description

The turpentine industry dominated many regions throughout the South in the 1800s as there were many pinewood forests to be found there. The industry produced pine tar used to seal wooden sailing ships. Eventually other uses were found for the ingredient such as kerosene lamps, shoe polish, Vicks VapoRub and crayons.
