ABOUT THIS ITEM
Charming little Victorian greeting / album card produced in 1878 entitled "Kindness to Animals".
The card features a Bible verse from Matthew 5:7, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy," and a portion of the poem "Little Bell" by Thomas Westwood (1814-1888), which reads in part: "Whom God's creatures love,' the angel fair murmured, 'God doth bless with angels' care.'"
Violet / lilac border design with an embossed full color graphic of the head of a cute little terrier or mutt dog, the card measures 4.125" x 2.5" inches.
Published by L. Prang & Co., Boston, 1878. Louis Prang is known as the "father of the American Christmas card".
